2008 WORLD SHOW UPDATE.....

In addition to moving to the Agricenter International for the IBHA Dunarama World Week, a new program and schedule of events will be introduced for both the Circuit and World Championship Show. The new format will be a fresh change to the World Week. The Agricenter International is the home of the Show Place Arena. The 1000 acre complex is located just east of Memphis, Tennessee and houses an RV campground which will be appreciated by the many exhibitors who have trailers with living quarters, campers and motor homes. In scheduling for the 2008 event, IBHA will have changes in the scheduling to better accommodate the event. At this time some of the changes are as follows:

IBHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW The class schedule of the World Show will see a major revision as the World Show will revert to being a 4 day, triple judged show. With the lack of entries in the cattle events and the cattle fees being unreasonable for the few entries, the cattle classes are once again being deleted and will not be offered until enough interest warrants having the classes. Also, beginning with 2008, if there are not enough entries to at least warrant one point under each judge (minimum of 3 entries) for two years in a row, such class may be deleted from future shows.

The Freestyle Reining will again be offered at the World Show. It will be on Wednesday, Aug 6 and there is $1500.0 added money along with the 100% payback. The class will be limited to the first 13 entries so get your entry in early. Click here for the Freestyle Entry Form and Rules.

This year the Warm Up Circuit will offer three NSBA Futurity classes with $1500.00 added money for each class. Yearling Longe Line will be held concurrently with class #25 on Monday, August 4, 2008.  Two Year Old Western Pleasure and Three Year Old Western Pleasure will be held after class #68 on Tuesday, August 5, 2008. For more information download the World Show brochure below or contact Edith Mallory at (859) 987-2415. The success of these classes will help to determine next year's schedule.

Amateur Hunter Hack will be offered for the first time in 2008. The World Show will run August 6, 7, 8 & 9. The Buckskin World Sale will be held on Friday, August 8 at 6:00pm. Auctioneer for the World Sale will be Wayne Boyd of Princeton, Kentucky. Wayne is well known for the sales he produces at the West Kentucky University and Tunica, Mississippi. The sale is expected to draw top Buckskin, Dun, Red Dun and Grulla horses and become the market place for sellers and buyers of these horses.

The first two bales of bedding will be furnished with each stall. Additional bedding can be purchased from the Agricenter at $6.00 per bale. This is $2.00 less than last year. Stalls can be decorated with very few restrictions. If nails are used, they must be removed when leaving. No paint is allowed on the stalls. These are currently the only restrictions. Dogs must be kept on a leash in the barn areas and in the Show Place arena. Dog mess must be picked up immediately, or a fine will be levied. Golf carts and other motorized vehicles may only be driven by licensed driver and are not allowed in the barn aisles.

SOCIAL EVENTS The Exhibitors Party will be held on Thursday, Aug 7 at the Agricenter Exhibition Facility which is walking distance from the camper area and barn area. The party will be a traditional (for Memphis) style All You Can Eat BBQ and lemon chicken breast. Pop and beer will be sold but the policy is BYOB (and ice). Tea, lemonade and water will be included with the BBQ. The scholarship auction and dance will be held as in the past. Don you sideburns and white scarves for a pleasant surprise at the Exhibitor's Party!

The Queens Ball and Awards Banquet will be held in the banquet room of the famous Butcher Shop Steakhouse which is located on the show grounds approximately 200 feet from the Show Place Arena. Banquet rates will remain the same as in the past but the menu is expanded to include 3 entrees with chicken, beef and salmon tentatively being considered with all the rest of the "trimmins".

Two hotels are being contracted for and information regarding reservations will be listed here and in the Horse Circuit News publication.

The 2007 IBHA World Show Judges have the tough task of placing the classes. The quality of the horse's does not make this an easy job. This year's judges were Rhonda Replogle - Maine, Whizzer Baker - Florida, and Dick Gahimer - Florida. Larry Williard - Colordao served as the equipment judge and back-up judge.

The total purse was $3,150.00 and payback went to the top 4 places. Ten contestants competed for the 6 placings recognized. After the freestyle reining it was time for the Exhibitor's Party. This year over 180 exhibitors and their families enjoyed the all you can eat taco bar and visiting with each other. After dinner the Gateway circuit awards were presented. Click here for a complete list of circuit champions. GATEWAY AWARDS Congratulations to all the gateway winners!

After dinner it was time for the queens oration. Before it started each contestant was given a hat by master hatter Darryl Sullivan of Sullivan Hat Co. Pictured at left is 2006 IBHA Queen Kyla Copple, Darryl, queen contestants Jennifer Ross, Kelly Crooks, Cassie Hanft and Alexis Northcutt. After receiving their hats, the contestants then gave a short speech to the crowd. A randomly drawn question was then asked to each contestant. All the girls did a wonderful job. To see more on the queen contest go to the "Queen Contestants" page. The last duty of the night for the queens was to show the scholarship auction items to the crowd.

As the auction began auctioneer Chuck Cumberlin described the items, with the help of Rich Kurzeja and Pat Osenga. Thanks to the donations of many individuals and also some IBHA charter clubs, approximately $5,000.00 was raised for scholarships. There are two auctions held annually to fund the scholarships that are awarded to deserving IBHA students.

Thursday night was a free night for the exhibitors. There was a wide variety of things to do in Denver. Some caught a Rockies game, went for a drive in the mountains to old mining towns or Estes Park, ate at one of the many fine restaurants, checked out the Coors factory or casino or just relaxed.

The 17th annual Buckskin World Sale was held on Friday evening. Although the number of consignments was up from last year, it still seems that people don't want to part with their buckskins. Shown at left is the high selling horse "SUGS PISTOLETTA" (formerly)owned by Jennifer Dionisio of Colorado along with the new owners.

The World Show wrapped up early Saturday afternoon. This gives everybody time to take care of their animals and have enough time to "spruce up" for the queen's ball. After cocktail hour and a delicious meal the World Show awards were presented. The Iowa youth team came in first place in the stall decorating with the Illinois team right behind them in second. Youth Team Tournament Champions were the Mile Hi youth with Illinois again getting the Reserve. Go to the Club Corner page for more information and team listings. Custom saddles made by Crates Leather Company were awarded to the All-Around World Champions. Hand crafted silver buckles, made by Wage's Silversmiths and donated by Smith Auto Dealerships (Chevy, Pontiac and Ford) were awarded to the Reserve All-Around Champions.
